Magazine Update

I have finally made some serious progress on my double page spread, especially on the layout, i do however need to get the main image posted as the image currently on the double page is for reference only and will not be the final image used. I also need to finish writing the article and applying codes and conventions

Today I had planned to take a few more photos that I could use for my contents page and I had to change my main cover image for the front page, I had asked to borrow my teachers camera so that the images would be of a better quality and look more professional, this is the result:

Masthead Study

The Masthead is the title of the magazine so it will be the first thing you would notice when you see the front page, I have looked at several different mastheads from the more popular music magazines and this is what i found:

Out of all of these mastheads the one thing that remains the same are the colour scheme, they all contain at least one of the three colours red, white and black, this will be an important note for the construction of my magazine as these colours are bright (or at least red is) and it will attract the attention of the reader.

Contents Page Template

This is my basic template for my music magazine contents page, as it is only a single contents page i have only used the one page. This will serve as a basic outline to my contents page as i might change the layout whilst i'm creating it.

As Q magazine is a similar genre to my magazine i have researched into what their contents page look like so i can get an idea on how to create mine.

 

  
With these contents pages they all have images that are very prominent on the page, every single one of the pages have large images. These pages have very neat layouts which keep them looking organised and easy to read, It is very clear where the page numbers are and the information regarding those pages keep it looking more professional. The page also follows the house style of the magazine through their use of colours and how they place the text.

As you can see, the majority of the contents pages are all single page spreads however, there are a few double page contents pages that they have but there are still a larger number of single content pages than there are double. This shows me that for my music magazine i will be creating a single page for my contents page.

Masthead Questionnaire Results

After I had decided to change my masthead I had created a questionnaire on the possible choices for the magazine, here are a summery of the results:

As you can see Manic was voted the better option out of the four and it is the one i have decided to use on my music magazine.
